The Côte-de-Beaupré is known as a paradise for snow and winter sports, which means that in spring, some trails—especially at higher elevations—tend to stay wet longer. As a result, not all hikes are necessarily enjoyable during the first warm days.

The good news? There are still some great options to get outside and enjoy spring on the Côte-de-Beaupré. Here are three hiking ideas to explore during this transition season, combining nature observation, impressive waterfalls and accessible trails.

Discover Jean-Larose Falls in spring

Located at the foot of Mont-Sainte-Anne, Jean-Larose Falls is a must-see starting in mid-May. And the best part? Access is free.

Only 7 meters shorter than Montmorency Falls, it is just as impressive, both in height and in its natural setting.

You can reach it via the impressive staircase, or by taking the Jean-Larose Loop trail, an accessible hike that leads to spectacular viewpoints overlooking the falls. It’s a great option for a family outing, a picnic or even a nature workout.

Watch the snow geese and hike at Cap-Tourmente

In spring, the Cap-Tourmente National Wildlife Area becomes a must-visit destination to combine hiking and nature observation. Tens of thousands of snow geese stop in the marshes during their migration. On some days, you can spot up to 50,000 at once… a truly memorable spectacle that attracts outdoor enthusiasts and birdwatchers alike.

For an easy hike, the Bois-sent-bon trail (1 km round trip) allows you to get closer to the river and observe the birds easily, even with children.

For those looking for a longer outing, the La Cime trail (9.6 km round trip) offers a more challenging route with stunning viewpoints.

Walk at Parc de la Chute-Montmorency in spring

Spring is one of the best times to visit Parc de la Chute-Montmorency. Strolling through the gardens is always a highlight, especially when the tulips are in bloom.

Head to the suspension bridge to take in the power of the falls and enjoy views over the St. Lawrence River and Île d’Orléans. On the other side, take the time to follow the Resurgences trail, which runs alongside the river through a peaceful forest setting.

A fun fact that always impresses
Montmorency Falls is higher than Niagara Falls

Hiking in spring on the Côte-de-Beaupré

Spring is often an underrated season for hiking… and yet, it’s one of the best times to discover the Côte-de-Beaupré from a different perspective.

Between the migration of snow geese, the power of the waterfalls, trails gradually reopening and a quieter atmosphere, everything is in place for memorable outdoor experiences.

We look forward to welcoming you!
